Tantalum is a sleek and modern choice for your wedding ring. Tantalum is very rare in the world, and new to the jewelry industry, ensuring you will have a one of a kind symbol of your love.
Tantalum is an element on the periodic table and is considered a technology critical material. Tantalum capacitors are found in smartphones, tablets, and computers. Extremely rare, the primary resources of tantalum could potentially be exhausted within the next fifty years. Tantalum is the tenth metal type to be utilized by Lashbrook. Our Tantalum rings are made from 99+% pure Tantalum with only trace, natural impurities in the metal.
Tantalum Noir rings are made from our same pure Tantalum material, but then exposed to high heat in an extremely (specific) process that oxidizes the metal turning it a darker color, almost black. This Tantalum Oxide layer is present only on the outer surface of the ring, and otherwise does not change any of the characteristics of the metal.
Tantalum has a medium grey color, with a faint bluish hint- it’s color is often described as gun-metal. Tantalum Noir is a deep grey, nearly black color. Tantalum is quite dense, with a weight very similar to platinum. While many alternative metals create difficulties with resizing, tantalum is quite malleable and easily resized up to one size depending on customization. Tantalum is hypoallergenic, and will not corrode or react with exposure to everyday use or chemicals.
Tantalum rings can be worn in all kinds of environments and conditions. The metal will scuff and show wear over time but holds up to a great deal of abuse without cracking, breaking, bending, etc. Natural Tantalum rings’ color will not fade or change over time. Tantalum Noir, because of it’s thin darker layer, will show scuffs and scratches more readily. It’s lighter/natural color will show through these scratches over time.
Available in our full breadth of widths, profiles, finishes and most of our sizes- there are thousands of possible customizations for Tantalum rings. Additional possible combinations include precious metal inlays, mosaics, laser carved designs and color options with Cerakote. There are some limitations for combinations due to the density of the material and it’s difficulty to cut by precious CNC machining: some 2-tone alternative metal combinations and carbon Fiber for example. Diamond and gemstones are available in some of our simpler setting combinations (flush and bezel).
