A handmade metal using two different types of titanium, titanium Damascus is forged by combining heat, hand-twisting, and pressure, and a delicate metal workers touch. The deep violet to light blue color derives from an oxidation process on the surface, and may fade with everyday wear, but the etched version will maintain color as the colored section is recessed.
Because it’s titanium, it’s extremely lightweight, durable and hypoallergenic. We hand make the metal using two different types of titanium in a process very similar to Damascus steel wherein the metals are forged together, hand twisted, folded and reheated, this process repeated many times until the desired pattern is achieved. This new metal is then cut and carved to make a ring.
Titanium is considered a ‘reactive’ metal and anodized readily, a process that oxidized the surface metal- that oxide layer is what gives it such a dramatic color that varies from deep violet to light blue. The colors do wear away some over time during everyday wear, but the etched versions will maintain their color very well because the colored section is recessed. This etched version also gives the surface of the ring physical texture and depth you can see and feel.
Inlays of many different materials are available. There are some limitations with the plain polish (non-etched version) because of the color treatment process: any material that uses resin as a sealant like Hardwood, mosaics, camo etc. Sleeves are available with no restrictions. At this time, we are not offering gemstones by default but are willing to accommodate custom requests. Press-fit, or 2 piece rings, are compatible are offer lots of interesting ways to combine this materials with our other alternative metals both as a base metal and in using Titanium Damascus as a inlay.
